The Tree Board is working to ensure that the new baseball and softball complex reflects the identity and pride of Hiawatha — a community rooted in its heritage of beautiful maples and its long-standing commitment to caring for the land. Planting trees at the complex isn’t just about shade or aesthetics; it’s about creating a welcoming, enduring space that reflects who we are. By incorporating a thoughtful mix of species, we can showcase the full beauty of our region’s trees while strengthening the landscape for future generations.
Donations during the Hiawatha Community Foundation’s Match Days event directly amplify this vision. Every contribution helps us plant long-lived, climate-resilient trees that honor our maple legacy while also enriching biodiversity across the site. With community support, we can transform a new public space into a vibrant, living symbol of Hiawatha’s history, values, and natural beauty — a place where families, athletes, and visitors experience the full richness of our community's tree canopy.

The Tree Board of Hiawatha is dedicated to promoting the health, beauty, and sustainability of our community's tree canopy. We strive to enhance the quality of life for all residents by advocating for responsible tree planting, preservation, biodiversity, and maintenance practices. Through education, planning, and stewardship, we aim to foster a thriving natural environment that reflects the unique character of our city, the 'City of Beautiful Maples,' and preserves it for future generations.
