Friends Of The Morrill Free Public Library

Goal: $25,000.00

Specific Need

Three years ago the Friends of the Morrill Public Library picked one major need of the library for Match Days --- helping raise funds to replace the elevator that is essential to staff and patrons, especially elderly and handicapped individuals, moving between the two floors of the library.  The elevator requires monthly inspections and service when necessary to continue its operation until replacement is possible.  The projected cost of a new elevator today is $120,000, up from $90,000 two years ago.   To date, we are thankful to the community and our friends for the $31,864.72 in the Hiawatha Community Foundation account to be used, together with funds raised or through grants received by the library trustees, for the elevator project. 

Mission

The Friends or the Morrill Public Library is a non-profit organization whose object shall be to promote the interests and welfare of the library as a cultural, educational, and recreational asset in the community with a broad focus of service to patrons of all ages.

Profile

We are very thankful for the annual support received through family and business memberships as well as donations from lifetime memberships.

In 2022-2023, the Friends of the Morrill Public Library has:

• Supported the 2022 Summer Library Program, "Oceans of Possibilities"
• Purchased a subscription to "Book Page" so patrons can enjoy it for free
• Hosted the Used Book Sale in October and stocked Little Free Libraries in Brown County
• Continued to update the Digital Newspaper Archives provided by the library
• Funded the subscription to Beanstack, the library's digital reading tracker
• Funded Halloween Frolic activities put on by the library
• Maintained the Friends of Morrill Public Library Facegroup with up-to-date news about library programs and events.
